The Hsu-Kim group is part of an interdisciplinary team investigating extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the environment. EVs are cellular secretions packaged in a nano-sized phospholipid envelope and are generated by organisms for a variety of reasons, including protection from environmental stressors, probes for nutrients, and communication with other organisms. Our team strives to understand the roles of EVs in environmental systems and how they enable microorganisms to interact with their surrounding ecosystem.
Please see our new Vesicle Project website as well as our recent Perspectives paper in ESPI for more details!
